EDITOR'S NOTE
Jumbo Lobster Lamp is a one-of-a-kind monumental floor lamp from Christopher Tennant's first solo art exhibition at the Vanderbilt Museum in Long Island, New York, inspired by the tastes and eccentricities of globetrotting amateur naturalist and Jazz-Age aesthete William "Willie the K" Vanderbilt.
It features an oil-paper shade constructed from a vintage souvenir parasol with Shakespearean aphorisms produced by the Hiroshima corporation of Japan in the early 20th century. An expertly preserved specimen Maine lobster—a nod to Salvador Dali’s 1938 sensation,Lobster Phone—completes the surrealist vibe.
