Y2K 2.0
Ready to relive the early aughts? Y2K style makes a triumphant return with club-ready mini dresses, slinky bikini tops, low-slung bottoms, trippy prints, and neon brights. Bold printed items are trending upward with sales increasing 75% this season over SS’21.

For Spring, designers are recontextualizing the reigning styles of the early ’00s for today. Just how big is this trend? Prints are trending upward—they’re up 75% this season. Specifically, bold, trippy pattern which carry an early-aughts cyber edge. SIEDRÉS’ Kaleidoscope Pants are the #1 selling pants of the season, with 25% of shoppers purchasing the full look. Other top-selling printed pieces include Brandon Maxwell’s Nouveau Silk Mini Dress, DES PHEMMES’ Poplin Tie-Dye Shirt, Alexis’ Vibe Maxi Dress, and Johanna Ortiz’s Ritmo Vivo Midi Dress. And if the plethora of prints aren't going to convince you, Miu Miu’s take on the trend surely will. The Italian label put an ultra-fresh, preppy spin on Y2K style with what could be described as “indecently short” mini skirts that recall the hottest pop stars of the era. Among their top-selling items were the Low-Rise Exposed-Pocket Pleated Chino Mini Skirt followed by the Low-Rise Chino Pant. Consider pairing the latter of the two with the elevated bikini top that spiked 26% in units sold this season. Indeed, at the hands of Tom Ford, Brandon Maxwell, LaQuan Smith, and David Koma, the new-and-improved bikini top is officially the new going-out top—far more suited to a night on the town than a trip to the beach.

And of course, no Y2K trend edit is complete without a series of party-ready mini dresses, which increased 64% in units sold from last spring. Among the top performers are DES PHEMMES’ Embroidered Tie-Dye Corset Mini Dress and Embroidered Satin Mini Dress, Alex Perry’s Halsey Stretch Mini Dress, and Mach & Mach’s Bow Embellished Mini Dress.
