Foreword  SS'22 At A Glance  What's Next In Fashion

FOREWORD
Welcome back to the Runway Report, where we bring you data-driven predictions about next season’s top fashion trends based on preorders from Trunkshow shoppers on Moda Operandi.

Trunkshow is the only way to immediately shop next season’s fashion as it debuts—all under one digital “roof” at Moda Operandi. Through Trunkshow, Moda has the unique ability to predict breakout trends because our data is informed by actual purchases—and, by extension, authentic customer preferences—rather than conjectures made by the industry.

A World Transformed By COVID-19

The Spring / Summer '22 season signaled the return of in-person shows for the first time in 18 months and a creative renaissance in all major fashion capitals. Evidently, designers chose to spend the extra time looking inward as collections delivered messages of optimism, renewed priorities, and fresh ideas to drive us forward. Across the board, we saw exceptional craftsmanship and artisanal collaboration, infusions of cultural discourse, and an unapologetic nostalgia for the Y2K era. The sum of these parts? An unbridled sense of joy and a profoundly innovative spirit surrounding our collective emergence: new clothing for a new era.

But designers were not the only ones who made a change. The challenges of navigating a global pandemic, as well as pressing social and environmental issues, have caused dramatic shifts in lifestyles and shopping behaviors. This unpredictable climate makes Moda’s Trunkshow data increasingly relevant. Today’s luxury customer expects more from fashion than ever before. And they expect more from each individual garment: thoughtful design, higher quality and craftsmanship, and transparent values.
