Tomas Maier established his namesake label, one focused nearly exclusively on swimwear, in 1997.
He launched with bikinis, and as anyone who has ever worn his bathing suits (which now include far more varied styles) will tell you, they are not only designed to be “sat in,” but also to be “swam in”. That idea that something could look as great as it fit and still be functional may seem like difficult to come by, but it is one of the cornerstones of the Tomas Maier brand.
German-born Maier grew up exposed to the world of design through watching his architect father and studied fashion at Paris’ Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (where Yves Saint Laurent and Lagerfeld also studied), two influences that have guided the talent for precise tailoring signature to his label from its inception. Before stepping out on his own, he also spent time freelancing for several of the fashion industry’s most regarded names—Sonia Rykiel, Revillon and Hermès, where he worked for nine years. One could assume his innate appreciation for luxury was honed, if not
derived, from those years learning under those who knew it so intimately.
Today, the Tomas Maier brand includes far more than beautifully crafted swimwear. Maier launched his first women’s collection in 2002 and men’s in 2007, and each includes both ready to wear and accessories.
