Hailing from India, the couture designer is, above all, an expert embroiderer. Spring '20 was a deep-dive exploration into the technique, (even the invitations came adorned with the embroidered blooms used in the show). Motifs range from urban cityscapes to floral confections, with each individually hand-tacked onto an embroidered “stem” that is then attached to the fabric. Some pieces require more than 3,400 hours of handwork; part of a labor initiative that offers employment for artisans in rural villages around East India. The result? Striking pieces that are made with heart.
