VOYAGERS
Isla Holbox, Mexico
The newest cult secret might be challenging to get to but it’s definitely worth the trip.

The current trend on Instagram is the “disconnect,” and there’s no better place to do it than the island of Holbox. This tranquil paradise is anything but pretentious. Think denim cut-offs, flip-flops and plenty of mezcal. Here’s what to do and wear while there.

THE HOTEL
Punta Caliza Hotel

The place to stay is the Punta Caliza Hotel. With minimalist decor and just 12 rooms—each with their own pool that opens up to the main one—it makes for a very zen escape. It's family owned which ensures you feel like a guest on someone's property, rather than one of hundreds staying at a resort.

THE ACTIVITIES
For some, a beach vacation translates to time spent on the sand with little more to do than breeze through the latest piece of chic lit. However, for those in search of some activity, we suggest a few hours of kiteboarding with HolboXtreme, a local company known for leading the best trips on the island. Looking for a happy medium? Try a sunrise walk along Coco Beach.

THE RESTAURANT
Mandarina

Breakfast on the beach, anyone? Part of Casa las Tortugas (one of the hotels), Mandarina is the place to go—and serves lunch and dinner on the sand, too. The menu is "Mexi-Mediterranean" and you can expect to be served some of the best seafood on the island. The dress code is pretty laid back; shoes are optional.

LUUMA

THE BAR
LUUMA

When we said the look on the island was casual, we meant it. Think: "straight-from-the-beach chic," even when going for drinks. (Anything more than a sundress and sandals will have you overdressed.) Once the clock strikes cocktail hour, head to Luuma for drinks and light bites where the vibe is bohemian cool. Order the Luuma Colada, a rum-based cocktail complete with coconut cream and cinnamon syrup.
