THE COCKTAIL

Signature Spicy Margarita

BY

Katherine Serrano Holmgren

TIME
10 minutes

INGREDIENTS
Tequila, ripe lime, orange-flavored Dry Curaçao, ice
cubes, dry chile powder, and salt.

INSTRUCTIONS
Note, you will need a cocktail shaker.

1.
Cut 1 lime in half and squeeze out the juice. Use the lime
to wet the rim of your glass.

2.
Sprinkle a plate with the dried chile and salt mix,
and then place your glass upside down to evenly distribute
the garnish around the rim.

3.
In a cocktail shaker, pour 2 measures of tequila (my
favorite is Casa Dragones, which I keep in the freezer
so it’s extra cold) and 1 measure of orange-flavored Dry
Curaçao. Add the lime juice and a handful of ice cubes.

4.
Give it a good, strong shake.

5.
Pour into your chili-rimmed glass and top up with a few
additional ice cubes. Finally, add some lime zest. If you’re
looking for something lighter, a splash of blood
orange juice—ideal for sunset drinks.

THE MODA GUIDE TO SUMMER

How To Make The Perfect Margarita

Nothing signals the start of summer quite like cocktails at golden hour. Just ask Galvan co-founder Katherine Serrano Holmgren, who’s found solace during the lockdown through her weekly ritual: margarita-making—in style, no less. Every Friday circa 6pm, Katherine changes into one of her silky slip dresses, does her makeup, and sits down to a formal cocktail hour (or several) with her husband.

“It’s a sexy cocktail,” she says. “The chili tingles on your lips and the lime transports you somewhere hot and sultry. Plus, tequila is an upper—great fuel for dancing.” Her most important rule? “It must be spicy!”

Find her easy, five-step recipe below. And watch Katherine make one in our Please Do Try This At Home series on Instagram.
