Grace Fuller Marroquin is someone who fashion-y people know—or know of. It might be because they recall seeing her name on the masthead at Vogue, where she started her career as an editor, or W Magazine, where, as jewelry editor, she made a name in the industry for having exceptional taste. Or maybe it’s because, after founding her landscape design firm in 2019, she’s developed a reputation as the It designer of the moment, collaborating with The Row on the garden of their Hamptons store last year, as well as a line of planters handcrafted in Mexico.

Despite these shiny accolades, Fuller Marroquin has a distinctly relaxed sensibility. She is unhurried in spirit and her cadence is leisurely; two qualities which belie a fiery creativity and get-it-done efficiency. (During our shoot, she navigated incessant May showers; changing locations, outfits, and resetting various tables with unflustered ease.) Reluctant as I am to resurrect a tired metaphor, the mother of two does seems to resemble something of a swan: preternaturally calm on the surface; fervidly paddling underneath. And, as she points out, “happiest in nature.”

Here, Grace styles Moda Domus’ new “Le Jardin” collection in a Hudson Valley garden. Plus, she shares her year-round seasonal plant guide. Green-thumbed hosts, take note.
