THE CELEBS:

Best Dressed in my book goes to Amal Clooney in bright yellow Stella McCartney. A perfect color with a perfect hat: it was a fashion feast for the eyes. And George, of course, was the perfect accessory. Carey Mulligan in Erdem channeled an English rose, while Priyanka Chopra played it safe in lavender Vivienne Westwood. Her purple eyeshadow, however, was less safe and a misstep in my book. It was a given that Posh would wear one of her own gorgeous Victoria Beckham dresses, but I personally would have loved to see her in something colorful. Like Amal, she arrived with a gorgeous accessory on her arm.

THE BRIDESMAIDS:

No unflattering shoulder pads or dropped-waist ruffled concoctions for these girls! Custom Givenchy for the under-seven set too! Very. Well. Played.

THE ROYALS:

The Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate Middleton, has worn that McQueen dress and coat before. FOUR times! I actually applaud her for this; in the days of fast fashion, I approve the way she puts her investment pieces to work. (Also, if I had a custom McQueen suit that looked that good, I too would go for the multiple re-wears.) Her sister Pippa, on the other hand, was a bit more controversial. Dressed in a green and purple floral dress (Queenie wore it better) by London-based The Fold, she immediately became the target of the internet peanut gallery who was quick to compare her to the Arizona Iced Tea can. Admittedly, the resemblance is uncanny, but—luckily for Pips—they don’t sell Arizona Iced Tea in this country...so her fellows Brits were none the wiser. Princess Eugenie wore a little blue dress by Gainsbourg and a pillbox hat à la Jackie O. A bit retro but by topping the look off with a fashion forward M2Malletier bag, she helped bring it into this century. I liked Lady Kitty Spencer’s green floral Dolce & Gabbana dress; the Dolce boys really know how to do special-occasion dressing.
