THE MODA GUIDE TO
Ethical & Sustainable Brands
Fabulous fashion need not come at a high social or environmental cost. In support of those who strive to be a force of good in the world, here we shine a spotlight on the names that demonstrate a meaningful commitment to sustainable, ethical and responsible practices. Discover more below.
KOORELOO:
These bags are traditionally handwoven in Greece from natural locally-sourced materials.
KIMBERLY MCDONALD:
Handcrafted in the US, this jewelry line is inspired by natural materials, so there's an inherent focus on environmentally-responsible sourcing (including reclaimed gold and recycled diamonds).
KAYU:
Handmade with indigenous techniques by artisans and cooperatives paid fair living wages, these bags are made with mostly biodegradable materials such as locally-sourced and eco-friendly natural straw, sustainably-sourced shell and recycled wood.
KAREN WALKER:
The brand boasts responsible, direct sourcing (with a transparent code of conduct for social compliance), new processes to limit water and power usage, waste and carbon emissions (such as solar panels in their head office), and a history of partnerships with groups like UN initiatives and charities.

JOHANNA ORTIZ:
The Colombian designer supports the economy of her hometown through her foundation, Semirello, which enables international educators to teach high-end production techniques to women from disadvantaged communities; many continue to work for Ortiz (her entire line is made in Colombia) or have started their own businesses.
JANESSA LEONE:
For mindfully-sourced materials, we suggest the brand's natural Panama straw from Ecuador, which is built to last (and it's weather resistant) and protects from UV rays in the summer, or cruelty-free, sustainable virgin wool for winter, all of which are crafted by artisans in the US.
INNIKA CHOO:
Most products are made from environmentally-friendly materials, including linen, organic cotton, and Ramie made from renewable and biodegradable plant-based fibers.
