The Destination (Guest) Edit:
Holiday Plans

How many times have you heard the question, “What are you doing for New Year’s?” This month, we ask four fabulous jet-setters where they'll be ringing things in. Read on as they reveal what's inside their suitcases and share the helpful packing tips learned over years spent traveling (somewhere fabulous).

"I'm heading to my family's home in Beaver Creek, Colorado. We've been going since I was three or four, so it's very much a tradition!"

What are you wearing?
I’ll be skiing all day, so lots of layers and always a helmet. I love Perfect Moment skiwear. At night, we have dinner in town and I’ll wear a cozy sweater with fun earrings and a velvet bow in my hair—it’s about as dressed down as you’ll ever see me!

Plans for New Year’s?
Aspen is nearby, so my husband and I are driving to meet friends while my parents babysit our one-year-old. By then I’ll be excited to dress up again: if it’s embellished, I want to wear it.

Packing tip?
I have the world’s least practical advice: bring what makes you happy! For me that means more glitter, more shoes and more feathers. Vacations are supposed to be fun!

WHAT I'M PACKING

Jen Rubio
Co-Founder, Away

“Christmas Eve is always a massive family get-together in New Jersey. On Christmas Day, my mom and siblings and I are heading to Tofino in British Columbia where we’ll spend a few quiet days together. Then I head to much warmer waters of Sri Lanka for New Year’s Eve with friends before kicking off a big work trip around Southeast Asia.”

What are you wearing?
All you need in Tofino is a sturdy pair of boots for beach walks and a pile of cozy sweaters. For Sri Lanka, I’m taking lots of bright, flowy dresses, swimsuits with interesting details, and sandals (no heels!).

Plans New Year’s Eve?
I love a low-key NYE as long as I’m somewhere beautiful. I’m planning on a beach day alternating between dips in the ocean and reading a great book, followed by a massage at the spa, and then a late dinner to ring in the New Year.

Picking tip?
Use packing cubes. I swear by them so much that Away just launched a line of our own. They’re also particularly helpful when you’re packing for multiple trips—I organize my clothes by climate/destination which means I’m not rummaging through winter gear when I’m looking for a beach caftan.

"I will be at Watamu Beach in Kenya. We have a house on the coast and it’s very much my happy place.”

What are you wearing?
The second I arrive in Kenya I’m in a bikini and sarong, and my light wetsuit to kite surf.

Plans for New Year’s?
It’s very casual, even on New Year’s Eve. You’ll find me in a little dress and flats for a beach party and barbecue.

Packing tip?
Bring red lipstick. It transforms a simple outfit and a bare face into something glamorous.

“I’m staying at home in New York and planning on some quiet quality time with my husband, David [Broza] and the six kids. Normally we head to Tel Aviv but this year David’s tour schedule left us in the city. He is performing on Christmas eve at the 92nd Street Y."

What are you wearing?
Basically every piece from my Resort '18 collection. I’ll be pairing my favorite pants (the Ena jean in noir, the Inez velvet and the Amoir) with all the beautiful holiday tops.

Plans for New Year’s?
I plan on using this time to see Louise Bourgeois at the MoMA, visit some galleries and see Hamilton—finally!

Packing tip?
It depends where I’m going and what’s on the agenda so unfortunately I don’t have any set rules to share. Sorry!
