When she was 16, she wore an old Valentino dress of mine that I wore age 16.

Try and be more experimental and add more color!

I've always been amazed by her morning transformation from curlers tucked under a bike helmet to flowing locks. It's pretty fabulous!

Colombian designer Pepa Pombo started her eponymous line, famed for its heritage knitwear, in 1978. Her daughter, Mónica was named creative director of the brand in 2002.

What’s your earliest memory of your mom looking fabulous?

“I’ve always loved her wedding dress! It was inspired by men's shirting. Made from organza, it had neck-to-floor buttons covered in the same fabric with a handmade macramé belt. It was very ‘70s, and considered very avant-garde the time.”

 

What’s your mom’s best piece of style advice?

“The clothes should not define the woman—it’s the woman gives clothes their personality.”

What was your daughter's first fashion "moment"?

“I have always asked for her opinion, even when she was young. When Monica was at university, I asked her to help me with a collection. (I was away traveling and realized there was no way I would be able to finish it on time.) She ended up creating an entire collection from scratch and it turned out to be a complete success! From that day on, I knew she would continue my legacy.”

 

What’s your daughter’s best piece of style advice?

“Never be afraid to mismatch—unexpected combinations are often make the best outfits.”
