Once everyone has heard of it, the Moda woman is over it. So since we've all already been to the Hamptons, Palm Springs and Santorini, let's talk about the summer escapes you haven’t heard of.

Asbury Park, New Jersey

Once a haven for the wealthy and fabulous (sound familiar?), the artsy seaside town is set to make a comeback thanks to a series of investments totaling 1.25 billion dollars. The best part? It’s only 90 minutes from New York City by train or ferry.

WHAT TO DO:

Indulge the senses. Go walking in the famous lavender fields (there’s a festival on June 30th), enjoy California cuisine at KNEAD Baking Company (think avocados on avocados) and do a tasting at Topa Mountain Winery.

WHERE TO STAY:

The sleepy Ojai Valley Inn & Spa is the perfect place to wind down and switch off. Ask for the Fireplace Shangri-la room—it has a giant tub as well as a fireplace.

A mere two-hour drive up the coast from L.A., this lush town has finally been restored back to its former beauty (fire damage had left it ravaged for some time). Expect a gorgeous landscape comparable to Palm Spring—sans the Hollywood crowd.

WHAT TO DO:

Cycle along the boardwalk to brunch at Cardinal Provisions. If the weather isn’t great, head to Asbury Lanes, the newly refurbished bowling-alley-turned-music-venue. Bruce Springsteen (he’s a local) will be playing at their opening party.

WHERE TO STAY:

The Asbury Hotel, a hipster hotspot akin to The Ace, is the first hotel to open in decades. It’s a block from the boardwalk and the only place in town with a rooftop bar.
