AUDEMARS PIGUET
CAROLINA BUCCI
THE ROYAL OAK FROSTED GOLD

Why It’s Special
It's not that often you get a men's-sized watch designed especially for a woman. For their second collaboration, London-based jeweler Carolina Bucci reimagined heritage watch label Audemars Piguet’s most iconic timepiece, the Royal Oak, in her signature yellow-gold “diamond dust” with a mirrored face. It has an evening sensibility in a size that works at all hours: meet the modern "cocktail" watch.

The Details
  • 18-karat yellow-gold case and bracelet, diamond-hammered to create the glittering and glistening Florentine finish that’s become Carolina’s signature.
  • Polished, silver-toned mirror face—perfect for also checking your reflection when you check the time.
  • Water resistant up to 50m (translation: shower-proof).
  • 4.26mm thick, making it more like a chic cuff bracelet.
  • Limited edition: there are only 300 in total.

It all began in 2011, when London-based jeweler Carolina Bucci spotted a men’s watch on a woman’s wrist while walking the streets of Manhattan. The watch was a Royal Oak, a design first introduced by heritage Swiss label Audemars Piguet in the Seventies. It was no longer in production, but Bucci’s husband managed to track one down and she began wearing it every day, dutifully documenting it all on Instagram. Eventually, Piguet’s CEO, François-Henry Bennahmias, took notice and asked her to create a new version for the house—this time designed for women, by a woman.

Now, the two have joined forces once again to create another limited-edition version of the iconic style. More polished than its predecessor, the latest features a clean, silver-toned mirrored face, framed by an 18-karat yellow-gold case and bracelet in Bucci’s signature, diamond-hammered Florentine finish. It’s a piece of unparalleled design—which, for Bucci, is of paramount importance. “The most important question to ask is, 'Is it good design?' Not, ‘Is it designed by a woman?’” she said. It just so happens that the answer to both is yes.
