Mari Giudicelli

This past NYFW, designer, muse and sometime model Mari Giudicelli launched her first shoe collection and floored the fashion industry. Quite literally— we all bent down to take a closer look at a chic array of mules and loafers, in leather, suede and fur. Since then, she’s become the Insta-girl of the moment and a certified one to watch.

MODA: We first met during NYFW at the Sandy Liang presentation where you were modeling. But your shoes were also featured in the presentation. How did this happen?
MARI: Sandy and I admired each other for a while before meeting. She emailed me asking to meet up and we got along very well—she's super chill and down to earth, a very cool girl. The shoes integrated with the clothes really well, which speaks to their versatility.

MODA: Now take us back to the very beginning. How did it all start?
MARI: I studied art before moving to New York to study fashion design at Parsons. After a year, I transferred to accessories design at FIT, all the while interning for various brands. That was really important as I learned aspects of the industry they don’t teach you in class. Once I graduated, I felt it was time to get my vision out there—while I have the energy and am still relatively naive!

MODA: And where is your brand today
MARI: I do everything myself. It’s challenging but rewarding and I learn something new everyday, which keeps me moving forward.

MODA: What’s the aesthetic?
MARI: I wanted to create something casual but with a more elevated and sophisticated look. I appreciate unobtrusive and subtle styles.
